On October 26, local time, Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly paid his seventh visit to the China-Egypt Teda Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (Teda Cooperation Zone), personally witnessing the official launch and unveiling of two newly built projects: the QingShan Industrial Steel Pipe and Metal Furniture Factory, and the Punalu Plastics and Wood Industry Plant. The simultaneous completion and operation of these two enterprises mark a significant milestone in the industrial development of the Teda Cooperation Zone, while also holding profound implications for advancing Egypt’s industrialization process, fostering a green economic transition, and deepening China-Egypt cooperation on production capacity.

Qingshan Factory Unveils Its Plaque
As a key project in the metal manufacturing sector, QingShan Industrial Factory focuses on producing steel pipes and metal furniture. With an investment of US$4.5 million, the factory boasts an annual production capacity of 17,000 tons, offering products that include stainless steel pipes, sheets, and various types of metal furniture. It is expected to create 120 jobs. The completion of this plant has effectively accelerated Egypt’s localization process in the metal industry, strengthening the foundational capabilities of the related industrial chain, while also helping to cultivate a skilled workforce for the local industry.

Punalu Factory Unveiled
The Punalu plastic and wood factory, which was completed and put into operation at the same time, has invested $12 million in R&D and production of eco-friendly building materials, including artificial marble, wood-plastic composite panels, and UPVC doors and windows—all designed as green products. The company entered the Egyptian market in 2022, producing 56,160 pieces of artificial marble slabs and profiles annually, as well as over 140,000 units of various wood-plastic composite profiles and panels each year. Operating under a circular economy model, the factory significantly reduces its carbon footprint by recycling plastic waste and minimizing reliance on natural timber. The newly launched facility in the Teda Cooperation Zone aims for an annual production capacity of 56 tons per day, and its first-phase expansion has already created more than 100 job opportunities. This project stands as a key initiative in Egypt’s drive toward green manufacturing—and a vital step toward achieving the country’s 2050 carbon neutrality goal.

Punalu Factory Workshop
Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority, noted that the smooth commissioning of the two projects highlights the maturity of the TEDA Cooperation Zone in terms of industrial clustering, infrastructure, and its service system—and also reflects the growing confidence of international investors in Egypt’s business environment for industrial development.

Qingshan Factory Workshop
Prime Minister Madbouly emphasized that the Egyptian government encourages the development of industries based on innovation and clean technology. He expressed his welcome for projects settling in the TEDA Cooperation Zone, which will deliver high-quality products competitive in both regional and global markets, thereby strengthening Egypt’s national economy.
As a key platform for China-Egypt economic and trade cooperation, the TEDA Cooperation Zone is steadily emerging as a model area in Egypt, driving industrialization, attracting foreign investment, boosting employment, and fostering sustainable development. The successful launch and operation of these two enterprises not only enrich the zone’s industrial ecosystem but also set a benchmark for future China-Egypt collaborative projects, further strengthening the strategic partnership and practical cooperation between the two countries under the Belt and Road Initiative framework.
