On December 13, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, who came to China to participate in the China-Egypt Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue, met with Qu Defu, Chairman of Tianjin TEDA Holding, in Beijing. The two sides had an in-depth exchange on the latest developments and future plans of the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (TEDA Cooperation Zone).
Shoukry welcomed the meeting. He emphasized that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Sisi, Egypt-China relations have made significant progress, with increasingly close ties in various fields. The TEDA Cooperation Zone is a landmark project of China-Egypt cooperation and a model of China's foreign investment, playing a significant role in promoting and assisting economic growth in Egypt and even in the Middle East and North Africa. Prime Minister Madbouly is particularly concerned about the development of the TEDA Cooperation Zone and, at the request of the Egyptian Prime Minister, specifically arranged this meeting during his visit to China to further detail the current development status, future development plans, and existing problems and obstacles of the TEDA Cooperation Zone.
Qu Defu expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Madbouly, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Egyptian Embassy in China for their attention and support for the TEDA Cooperation Zone. He stated that the TEDA Cooperation Zone is a landmark project that aligns the Belt and Road Initiative with the development strategy of the Suez Canal Corridor, and it is a demonstrative project of China-Africa cooperation in building the Belt and Road. At this stage, it has become an important platform for China-Egypt economic and trade cooperation, achieving good political, economic, and social benefits. With the strategic upgrade and high-quality development of the TEDA Cooperation Zone, it is showing an increasingly strong development trend, with the scale, quality, and number of enterprises entering the zone continuously improving. However, during the development process, the TEDA Cooperation Zone faces some constraints that need to be addressed. Subsequently, both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on the existing problems and challenges.
Shoukry highly praised the TEDA Cooperation Zone's contributions in attracting foreign investment, generating tax revenue, and creating jobs, and he responded to the constraints currently faced by the TEDA Cooperation Zone one by one. He promised to report specifically to the Egyptian Prime Minister and President, while coordinating with relevant Egyptian departments to quickly resolve various constraints hindering the further development of the TEDA Cooperation Zone. In the future, he hopes that the TEDA Cooperation Zone will explore cooperation potential, broaden cooperation fields, further expand the scale of the park, and attract more Chinese enterprises in the fields of new energy and electric vehicles to invest in Egypt, thereby contributing more to Egypt's economic and social development, supporting Egypt's sustainable development, and promoting the deep integration of the Suez Canal Corridor and the Belt and Road Initiative.
Egypt's Ambassador to China, Asem Hanafi, relevant personnel from the Egyptian Embassy in China, and responsible persons from China-Africa TEDA attended the meeting.
