Historical evolution

The China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (hereinafter referred to as the "TEDA Cooperation Zone") is a national-level overseas economic and trade cooperation zone recognized by the Ministry of Commerce of China. It aims to promote China-Egypt production capacity cooperation and is jointly funded by Tianjin TEDA Holdings and China-Africa Fund Construction. The TEDA Cooperation Zone is located in the Suez Canal Corridor in Egypt, covering an area of 7.34 square kilometers, of which the starting area is 1.34 square kilometers and the expansion area is 6 square kilometers.

 

 

The TEDA Cooperation Zone is located in the northwest economic zone of the Gulf of Suez, Egypt, 120 kilometers away from Cairo, 40 kilometers away from the city of Suez, and close to the port of Insuhana, the third largest seaport in Egypt. The short-term planning area is 7 square kilometers, and the long-term planning area is 20 square kilometers. It is an international industrial base and a modern new city mainly focusing on industrial projects, covering major industries such as processing and manufacturing, logistics, bonded, technology development, commerce and modern services, as well as functional areas such as housing, commerce and finance.

　　

The cooperation zone was included in China's national-level overseas economic and trade cooperation zone in 2009 and enjoys a number of national-level preferential support policies. Since 2008, under the common attention of the leaders of the two countries, TEDA has comprehensively accelerated the development and construction of the cooperation zone and helped dozens of Chinese companies grow in the cooperation zone. As a "China-Egypt production capacity cooperation demonstration zone", the TEDA cooperation zone plays a significant role in promoting Egypt's industrialization process and carrying the "going out" platform for Chinese enterprises, and is praised as a "Sino-Egyptian cooperation bridge" by the leaders of China and Egypt ".

In 1984, the State Council of China approved the establishment of the Tianjin Development Area (TEDA);

In August 1986, after Deng Xiaoping, the chief architect of China's reform and opening up, inspected the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Zone, he gladly wrote: "The development zone is promising". As a result, TEDA has become the representative and leader of China's development zones. In the past 30 years, it has led 56 national development zones in China to achieve a landscape of the world economic map;

In 1997, TEDA ranked first in the first evaluation of China's national development zones;

In 1998, China and Egypt signed a letter of intent for cooperation in the construction of the Northwest Economic Zone of the Gulf of Suez in Egypt, and the State Council of China decided that TEDA would help Egypt in the construction on behalf of China;

In 1999, the then President of Egypt visited China and made a special trip to visit and inspect TEDA;

In 2000, the then President of China met with the then President of Egypt and was concerned about the construction of the cooperation zone;

In 2001, the first general-purpose standard factory building in the cooperation zone was completed;

In 2004, the then President of China visited Egypt, and the first enterprise in the cooperation zone opened;

In 2006, the then Premier of the State Council of China visited Egypt and expressed condolences to the Chinese employees of the cooperation zone;

In 2007, the cooperation zone won the bid for the second batch of cooperation zones of the Ministry of Commerce of China and became a member of the "national team;

In 2008, TEDA of Egypt and TEDA of Central Africa were established, leading the investment and operation of TEDA cooperation zone;

In May 2009, the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Finance officially confirmed that the TEDA Cooperation Zone was a national-level overseas economic and trade cooperation zone; the TEDA Cooperation Zone was fully constructed and appeared in international exhibitions;

In November 2009, the then Premier of the State Council Wen Jiabao and the then Prime Minister of Egypt awarded the starting area project of TEDA cooperation zone;

 

 

In 2011, Jushi project settled in TEDA cooperation zone;

In 2012, Fengshang (Shepherd) Project entered the cooperation zone. TEDA Swiss-Inn Plaza Hotel, a four-star hotel in TEDA Cooperation Zone, is open for business;

In April 2013, the then Prime Minister of Egypt went to the TEDA Cooperation Zone to witness the signing of the land contract for the 6 square kilometers project in the expansion area, calling the TEDA Cooperation Zone "the place where dreams begin";

In 2014, Chinese President Xi Jinping sent an oral message to Egyptian President Sisi emphasizing the emphasis on promoting the construction of TEDA cooperation zone. In December, China and Egypt signed the "China-Egypt Joint Statement on Establishing a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership", emphasizing the efforts of the two sides to promote the accelerated development of the TEDA Cooperation Zone under the framework of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries;

In 2015, Egypt TEDA Special Zone Development Company was established to lead the construction and investment promotion of the expansion area;

In January 2016, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Egyptian President Sisi unveiled the TEDA Cooperation Zone Expansion Project. President Xi Jinping delivered a speech at the headquarters of the Arab League and mentioned the TEDA Cooperation Zone twice; China and Egypt jointly issued the ''Five-Year Implementation Outline of the Republic of the People's Republic of China and the Arab Republic of Egypt on Strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Two Countries, "and the two sides agreed to redouble their efforts to develop the TEDA Cooperation Zone; china and Egypt signed the Agreement between the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and the General Administration of the Suez Canal Economic Zone of the Arab Republic of Egypt on the Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone of Egypt, and the establishment of a three-level consultation mechanism between the Chinese and Egyptian governments;

 

 

In April 2017, TEDA Cooperation Zone Management Committee was inaugurated;

In July, TEDA Cooperation Government Coordination Committee was established and organized the first meeting;

In November, the Chinese and English versions of the second volume of "Xi Jinping on State Administration" were published, and the TEDA Cooperation Zone was included in the book;

In March 2018, at the press conference of the First Session of the 13th National People's Congress, the TEDA Cooperation Zone was promoted by the Ministry of Commerce of China as a model for overseas cooperation zones;

In September, Egyptian President Sisi visited China and attended the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. The TEDA Cooperation Zone was invited to attend the signing ceremony of major Sino-Egyptian production capacity cooperation projects;

In December, the second coordination meeting between TEDA cooperation governments was successfully held;

In March 2019, Egyptian Prime Minister Madb's interest rate team inspected the TEDA cooperation zone and highly affirmed the development and construction achievements of the TEDA cooperation zone and the overall unified planning of the park.
