The substation where Mustafa works is a step-up substation project of the Egyptian Benban Photovoltaic Industrial Park undertaken by China Western Power Group. It is an important part of the backbone network of the Egyptian national grid, including 4 220 kV substations and 1 500 kV The substation was completed and connected to the grid at the end of 2019 and February 2021 respectively. As the hub of power transmission in this class photovoltaic industrial park, up to now, five substations have continuously provided more than 13775 gigawatt hours of electricity to the local area, providing strong power supply support for Egypt's economic and social development.
The photovoltaic industrial park is located in Aswan province in southern Egypt, where the sunshine can reach more than 3000 hours a year and is close to Aswan Dam. In recent years, as Egypt's population has soared and water consumption has risen, the Aswan Dam's power generation has struggled to meet local electricity demand.
In recent years, Egypt has made great efforts to build a modern power service system and increase the proportion of clean electricity. It is planned that by 2035, more than 42% of the electricity will come from renewable energy. In 2019, the photovoltaic industrial park built by the Egyptian government in the area was completed and put into operation, with a total installed capacity of over 2000 MW. Data show that when the park is at full capacity, it can generate 3.8 terawatt-hours of electricity every year, which greatly alleviates the local electricity gap and helps Egypt improve its energy structure.
The main equipment of the five substations in this class photovoltaic industrial park all adopt Chinese technology, and some of the equipment comes from Xidian-EGEMAC High Voltage Electric Co., Ltd. (a representative enterprise in TEDA Cooperation Zone), a joint venture between China Xidian Group and EGEMAC, a subsidiary of the Egyptian Ministry of Electric Power, which has realized localized production. It is understood that China Western Power Group has participated in and completed dozens of substation complete engineering projects in the Egyptian market, providing 66 kV to 500 kV power transformers, lightning arresters and other power transmission and transformation equipment for more than 50 substations, which has improved Egypt The production capacity of local electrical equipment promotes the rapid development of the local power industry. "In recent years, China's power products have been sold all over the world, which fully reflects that the technical level and quality of Chinese products are being recognized by global users." During the implementation of the substation project, a professional project management and construction team was formed by experts and technicians in the field of Chinese and Egyptian electric power, which effectively guaranteed the smooth power transmission of the project. In December 2021, Egyptian President Sisi inspected the Benban substation project and said that the project is one of Egypt's most important new energy and renewable energy power generation infrastructure projects, which will not only help further improve the safety of Egypt's domestic power supply network. And reliability, optimize the overall power grid structure of Egypt, and help Egypt achieve power exports through the power interconnection project, and help Egypt's goal of entering the ranks of developed countries in terms of power and renewable energy.
