To further strengthen safety management for confined-space operations and enhance workers’ risk awareness and emergency response capabilities, the Sino-Egypt Teda Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (Teda Cooperation Zone) recently organized an emergency rescue drill for confined-space work.
This drill simulated an emergency in which a worker, while performing cleaning operations inside the Old Zone pump room on campus, suddenly felt unwell and lost the ability to move. The exercise was conducted in an orderly manner, following the sequence of “incident detection, information reporting, emergency response, rescue operations, casualty evacuation, and medical care.” The Campus Operations Department and the security company worked closely together, promptly activating the emergency response plan, dispatching a rescue team to the scene, and employing safety ropes, harnesses, and other rescue equipment to carry out the rescue. The “casualty” was then transported to a safe area for medical treatment.
During the exercise, all participants demonstrated clear division of responsibilities, swift responses, and close coordination, successfully completing such scenarios as ventilation and gas detection in confined spaces, personnel rescue, casualty transport, and on-site emergency response. The exercise thus achieved its intended objectives of validating the emergency plan, strengthening the team’s capabilities, and enhancing overall preparedness.
The TEDA Cooperation Zone places great emphasis on workplace safety. In April this year, the zone invited Tianjin-based safety‑technology experts to conduct on-site inspections and provide specialized guidance, engaging in in-depth discussions with representatives of enterprises within the park on safety‑related matters. During these sessions, key areas of weakness—such as fire safety, electrical safety, equipment and facility management, and the implementation of safety responsibilities—were systematically identified and addressed. This drill further strengthened the safety awareness of relevant personnel at the TEDA Cooperation Zone regarding confined‑space operations, enhanced the coordinated response capabilities of the emergency rescue team, and improved their ability to handle emergencies, thereby laying a solid foundation for maintaining a sustained and stable safety record in the park.
