On April 7, local time, Egypt Teda Zone Development Co., Ltd. and Egyptian Duty Free Stores S.A.E. (EFS) formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the China–Egypt Teda Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone. The two parties will jointly establish a duty-free store within the zone, with the aim of further enhancing the zone’s commercial infrastructure and improving its overall service capabilities.
At the signing ceremony, Cao Hui, Executive Director of the Special Economic Zone Development Company, and Mr. Ashraf Zei, Chairman of the Egyptian Duty-Free Stores Company, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. Wei Jianqing, General Manager of Sino-African TEDA, members of the TEDA Cooperation Zone’s commercial real estate team, and senior executives from the Egyptian Duty-Free Stores Company also attended the ceremony and witnessed this significant moment.
Egyptian Duty Free Stores S.A.E. (EFS), established in 1975, is one of Egypt’s earliest and most influential duty-free operators. It currently operates more than 20 stores nationwide, with a diverse product portfolio that includes cosmetics, fragrances, luxury goods, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and electronics, among others.
The establishment of a duty-free store in the TEDA Cooperation Zone will serve as a unique commercial format, offering unparalleled shopping convenience to Chinese and Egyptian employees stationed in the zone, local port and surrounding residents, as well as business travelers heading to the Red Sea region. This initiative will not only meet diverse consumer needs, significantly enhance quality of life, and reduce time and transportation costs, but also further optimize the zone’s business environment, thereby supporting the long-term, stable development of foreign-invested projects.
In addition, the project will establish deep synergies with the supply-chain trade operations of the China-Africa TEDA Headquarters, effectively facilitating the international expansion of more Chinese-made products and fostering mutually beneficial, win-win two-way trade.
