The Suez Canal Economic Zone is located at the junction of Asia, Africa and Europe, with a total area of more than 455 square kilometers. It is not only the gateway of trade between the East and the West, but also the industrial and logistics center built by Egypt.

The China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone is an important part of the Suez Canal Economic Zone and a landmark project for China and Egypt to jointly build the "Belt and Road. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone. China and Egypt will further consolidate bilateral cooperation, build the brand of the cooperation zone, and promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Egypt. What are the opportunities for Sichuan enterprises in the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone? What are the suggestions for Sichuan enterprises that come to invest? For this reason, the reporter interviewed Ahmed Radwan, the CEO of TEDA Investment Company in Egypt.

 

 

Reporter: It has been 10 years since the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed in 2013. What has it brought to Egypt? What changes have you felt?

Ahmed Radwan: For me, the past ten years have been a decade of continuous growth of the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone. Through years of efforts, the cooperation zone has finally become an important platform for economic and trade cooperation between China and Egypt.

The China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone has increased foreign investment for Egypt, stimulated GDP growth, provided employment opportunities, and opened up new export markets.

As of June 2023, more than 140 companies have settled in the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, with actual investment exceeding US $1.6 billion and tax revenue exceeding US $0.2 billion, directly or indirectly providing jobs for more than 60000 people. The cooperation zone has gathered leading Chinese enterprises such as Jushi, Midea, Universiade and Honghua. The cooperation zone has not only promoted local technological development and industrial upgrading, but also promoted the training of local talents, and injected strong impetus into the cooperation between the two countries in building the "Belt and Road. Therefore, the TEDA model is a successful case that can encourage more cooperation between China and Egypt.

Reporter: The construction of the Suez Canal Economic Zone contains great opportunities. In particular, I would like to ask you to introduce what other areas of cooperation and win-win projects, and what investment opportunities can Sichuan enterprises participate in?

Ahmed Radwan: The cooperation zone has a long history with Sichuan enterprises. Honghua Group from Sichuan is the first batch of enterprises to enter the park. We welcome all Sichuan enterprises. Automobile, food, petrochemical, and biological medicine are our special areas of concern.

 

 

 

The China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone is not only strategically located, but also rich in new energy resources, such as solar and wind energy. Therefore, green energy is also concerned by us, such as hydrogen energy, solar energy, wind turbine manufacturing, seawater desalination, energy storage and other fields.

Ahmed Radwan: The cooperation zone is located in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, which is located in the golden triangle of Asia, Africa and Europe. Close to the canal, with convenient transportation, can reduce logistics costs for enterprises.

It is worth mentioning that the cooperation zone is located at the beginning of the "Revitalization of the Suez Canal Corridor" plan area, and it is also the only industrial park in the region that has a full range of supporting implementation. The production and living facilities here are complete, which can meet the investment needs of enterprises.
