After July 1, exports to Egypt need to provide ACID number!
Egypt's Ministry of Finance announced that it will rely on the NAFEZA platform to implement the Advance Cargo Information Declaration (ACID) system in all ports across the country. The system has been piloted on April 1, 2021 and will be mandatory from July 1, 2021 (sailing date).
According to Egypt's new regulations, importers must report the arrival of goods in advance before loading at the port of departure and wait for approval from the relevant authorities. Once the approval of the customs (Cargo Information Declaration) is received, the importer is responsible for providing the ACID to the exporter so that they can update all documents related to the shipment, including the bill of lading.
The consignor needs to coordinate with the local consignee in Egypt to register on the NAFEZA platform, submit relevant information and obtain an ACID number. The number should be shown on the bill of lading and must be submitted to the Egyptian customs and verified for validity. If the ACID number cannot be provided, the goods will be returned to the port of shipment and a fine will be imposed.
After the new regulations are enforced (according to the current plan, the sailing date is July 1), the goods imported into Egypt shall provide ACID number at the time of booking, and the shipping company will arrange the submission of relevant cargo information (including ACID number) according to the time node required by local supervision in Egypt. Any additional costs or penalties arising from the return of the goods to the carrier due to the failure of the cargo party to declare correctly as required will be borne by the cargo party.
