At the site of the 500 kV substation project in Eczadiya, Egypt, Li Changtao and his colleagues are installing and debugging equipment to ensure that the project is put into operation on schedule. Li Changtao, 35, is a service engineer in the ultra-high voltage product manufacturing department of Xi'an Xidian Switch Electric Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Xidian Group. He came here in April last year to be responsible for on-site installation guidance.
"When I first arrived, the site was carrying out infrastructure construction. After half a year of construction, the installation of 110 kV and 220 kV products was basically completed, and the installation of 500 kV products began at the end of last year." Li Changtao said that at first, the technical level and overall safety awareness of Egyptian employees were lacking. After many on-site guidance and training, they have now mastered the process and skills of equipment installation. Among them, several key Egyptian personnel can lead other employees on site to work normally.
On April 21, at the construction site of the Exadia substation project in Suez Province, Egypt, Zhang Pengbo (left), project manager of the Egyptian branch of Xi'an Xidian International Engineering Co., Ltd., affiliated to China Xidian Group, asked Egyptian employees about the progress of the project.
Zhang Pengbo, project manager of the Egyptian branch of Xi'an Xidian International Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Xidian Group, is responsible for the management of the project. He introduced that the Exadia substation is close to the Suez Canal Economic Zone and is an important power infrastructure construction project in the region and an important part of the Egyptian national grid backbone network. The project includes all voltage levels of Egypt's main transmission network, connecting the Sukhnaiquan power plant, the new administrative capital, and important industrial users and surrounding towns in the region through transmission lines of different voltage levels.
"After the completion of the project, it will greatly improve the power shortage in the region, optimize the overall power grid structure, improve the safety and reliability of the power supply network, and provide reliable power supply support for the rapid development of the local economy and society." Zhang Pengbo said.
Zhang Pengbo said that the transformers, switches and other equipment used in the substation are independently developed by Chinese companies, and the technology used is relatively advanced at home and abroad. For example, the switchgear used in the project has greatly reduced the equipment footprint and reduced maintenance costs. At the same time, during the implementation of the project, the concept of the "Belt and Road" initiative was actively implemented, Chinese technology and Chinese experience were shared, and personnel from both China and Egypt participated in project management and technical services to promote each other.
The Exadia Substation Project is just a microcosm of China-Egypt power cooperation. In 2008, Xi'an Xidian International Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Xidian Group, successfully won the bid and took the first step to open up the Egyptian market. In 2009, China Xidian Group and EGEMAC, a subsidiary of the Egyptian Ministry of Electric Power, jointly established Xidian-EGEMAC High Voltage Electric Co., Ltd. and settled in the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone. The company is mainly based in Egypt and faces the Middle East and African markets, provide locally manufactured power transmission and transformation equipment and complete sets of engineering services.

On April 21, workers lifted and shipped a finished transformer in the equipment manufacturing workshop of Xidian-EGEMAC High Voltage Electric Co., Ltd. in Egypt's TEDA Cooperation Zone.
Shi Chen, general manager of XD-EGEMAC High Voltage Electric Co., Ltd., said that the company currently has more than 270 Egyptian employees and 6 Chinese permanent personnel. While helping Egypt's economic development, it has achieved localized management and localized production.
Xinhua News Agency reporters recently interviewed in the equipment manufacturing workshop of Xidian-EGEMAC High Voltage Electric Co., Ltd. in the TEDA Cooperation Zone that some workers were stacking iron cores. They manually stacked silicon steel sheets with a thickness of 0.23mm.
He Feng, deputy general manager of Xidian-EGEMAC High Voltage Electric Co., Ltd., said that transformer production includes multiple processes such as winding, coil assembly and iron core stacking. Due to the uniqueness of transformer product design, the production process is not a standard assembly line operation. Basically, every link requires manual operation and close team cooperation. Through the help and guidance of Chinese employees, Egyptian employees have learned relevant manufacturing technologies.
"Egypt is now entering a stage of rapid development, and many substations need to be built. In the past, transformers and switchgear were purchased from abroad. Now our company can produce them. Not only the quality is good, but the price is also competitive." The company's purchasing manager, egyptian employee mohamed issa proudly told reporters.
Shi Chen said that at present, Xidian International and Xidian-EGEMAC, a subsidiary of China XD Group, have undertaken more than 30 substation projects ranging from 66 kV to 500 kV in Egypt, providing transformers, reactors, switches, lightning arresters and other power transmission and transformation equipment for dozens of substations.
