On the morning of May 28, Egyptian President Abdelfattah el-Sisi arrived in Beijing to begin his state visit to China and will attend the opening ceremony of the 10th Ministerial Conference of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum.
Hong Kong's "South China Morning Post" website recently reported that in recent years, China's policy of strengthening relations with countries in the global south has been continuously promoted, which can be seen from its extensive relations with Egypt. Under the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership, China has invested heavily in Egypt, especially in agriculture, technology, steel, construction, textiles and tourism.
On May 13, Egyptian President Sisi announced that the first phase of a large-scale warehousing project west of Cairo was put into operation. The project was undertaken by China Fengshang Group (Note: TEDA Cooperation Zone Enterprises) to achieve food security and agricultural exports. By paying for the construction in Egyptian pounds instead of dollars, Egypt is expected to save significant costs on the project, which includes the construction of a food manufacturing industrial zone.
According to the report, through the head of state diplomacy and the meeting between Chinese and Egyptian officials, the relations between Egypt and China are constantly developing in the economic, political, cultural and security fields. Liao Liqiang, Chinese ambassador to Egypt, said in an exclusive interview with the media last month that "the development of bilateral relations between China and Egypt has entered the fast lane and reached the best level".
China sees Egypt as an important investment destination. Free industrial zones under construction in Egypt-such as the New Alamcity and Suez Canal Economic Zone (note: where the TEDA Cooperation Zone is located)-are attracting Chinese investors. China is one of Egypt's largest trading partners. In the past 25 years, China's exports to Egypt have increased at an annual rate of more than 14%, while Egypt's exports to China have increased at an average annual rate of nearly 18% during the same period.
Especially after Egypt became a full member of the BRICS in January this year, Chinese investment in Egypt began to surge.
According to the report, the cooperation between China and Egypt in the field of media and satellite technology is remarkable. China receives and trains African journalists and media experts every year, and promotes the exchange of visits between Chinese and African media personnel.
In March this year, China strengthened its cooperation with the Egyptian Space Agency by signing an agreement on the delivery of the Egypt-II satellite. The satellite was assembled and tested in Egypt with the goal of collecting data for land and water development in the country. The Egyptian -2 satellite was successfully launched from northwest China.
According to the report, building a community with a shared future for mankind is the core of China's diplomacy and modernization, and this is also an idea that Egypt cherishes and adopts in the process of pursuing economic development.
Given the long historical and cultural traditions of the two countries, China and Egypt have formed a strong relationship that benefits both countries and Africa as a whole.
