Egyptian Finance Minister Maith issued a statement a few days ago, postponing the mandatory implementation of the cargo information forecast (ACI) system at maritime ports from July 1 to early October.
The ACI system will provide foreign trade operators with comprehensive electronic cargo information and help Egyptian customs to start customs clearance before the arrival of goods, Mait said. The trial operation of the system will last until the end of September. As of now, about 16000 foreign exporters have registered.
Mait called on exporters and customs clearance agencies to register with the ACI system as soon as possible, noting that from the beginning of October, any foreign goods not registered through the ACI system will not be allowed to enter Egyptian maritime ports.
According to reports, Egypt has been running the ACI system since April 1. The goal of the system is to simplify and automate customs procedures, shorten customs clearance time, reduce the cost of goods and strengthen management.
