In 1984, in order to attract overseas investment and develop import and export trade, China established the first batch of 14 economic and technological development zones in coastal port cities. Over the past 30 years, the rapid economic development of these development zones has played an important role in promoting China's economic development, system reform and opening to the outside world.

TEDA is one of the first economic and technological development zones. The full name of "TEDA" is Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Zone-Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area, its English abbreviation is TEDA, and its transliteration is "TEDA". It was established on December 6, 1984 with the approval of the State Council of the People's Republic of China.

In 1984, the first group of Teda people began their pioneering journey. The site of Tianjin TEDA Development Zone is a deserted saline-alkali land: ditches are vertical and horizontal, silt deposits, and salt flats are vast. It was in the severe winter and the construction conditions were extremely difficult. In a very short period of time, it has overcome the harsh natural environment and geological environment and created conditions for comprehensive development. TEDA has adopted the regional development model of "planning one piece, developing one piece, and earning one piece", and has achieved remarkable results in the subsequent development process, attracting a large number of foreign-invested enterprises and world-renowned enterprises.

At the beginning of the construction area, TEDA put forward the correct and lofty concept-"the project is the lifeline, the investor is the emperor", "provide convenience for investors, let investors win profits", "build a simulated international investment environment" and so on. The advanced consciousness and concept push the action to be one step ahead. As of 2013, in the investment environment evaluation of 90 national development zones by the Ministry of Commerce of China, the comprehensive evaluation index of TEDA Development Zone ranked first for 15 consecutive years, and it has truly become the best modern industrial zone in China.

With more than 30 years of development and construction, TEDA has developed comprehensively in various fields such as economy, society, humanities, and services. With the continuous growth and development of TEDA, TEDA also began to expand its perspective to overseas. At the beginning of 1998, Tianjin TEDA Development Zone was invited by the Egyptian government to undertake the task of helping Egypt build the Northwest Suez Economic Zone on behalf of China. From 1998 to 2007, Tianjin TEDA successively sent a number of key elites to Egypt to promote the progress of the Egyptian project. Completed the economic analysis of the development and construction of the Suez Northwest Economic Zone, the overall planning of the No. 3 plot and the detailed regulatory planning of the 2 square kilometers starting area, and assisted Egypt in the development, construction and investment promotion of the No. 3 plot of the Suez Special Economic Zone.

In order to accelerate and promote the development of the region, in July 2008, Tianjin TEDA Investment Holdings Co., Ltd., China-Africa Development Fund and Egypt-China Joint Venture Company jointly established the Egyptian TEDA Investment Company, and began to start the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone Construction. During the construction process, the Chinese brought the advanced concepts and valuable experience of operating development zones in China to Egypt. The 1.34-square-kilometer starting area of the Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone has achieved great success in Egypt. The never-ending TEDA people once again signed a land contract for the 6-square-kilometer expansion area with the Suez Special Administrative Region Development Corporation to continue their new pioneering journey.
